DFWCS Opinion Call: Arts & Crafts Show @ Shakespeare in the Park?

DFW Craft Show Community: it's time to get loud and opinionated!

Shakespeare in the Park is considering reserving their vendor plaza strictly for Arts & Crafts vendors this summer, and they want to know what the DFW Craft Show Community thinks. The information provided below is to help you in your decision.

Shakespeare in the Park
1500 Tenison Pkwy
Dallas, TX 75223

June 16th - July 24th (no shows on Monday)

Vendors should be completely set up by 6:45PM and may leave as early as the end of Intermission. Intermission usually starts around 9:45 and the show usually ends between 10:30 and 11:00PM

This event is outside. Booths sizes are TBA, but the fee would be around $25 per night. They anticipate being able to accommodate approximately 30 to 50 vendors on any give night.

On an average night they have 300-500 audience members. On a busy night they have had up to 1300 audience members in the park.

"We are committed to making Dallas an "artist's town" and believe that a partnership like this would be a great step in the right direction for the Arts Culture of DFW." - Sara Boland-Taylor

Would you be interested in
participating in an Arts & Crafts
Show at Shakespeare In The Park?

UPDATED to add some additional information from the comments below:

The website for Shakespeare in the Park is here.
Tickets are $10 / person.

Information about lighting:

"The vendor area will be lit after dark although we do try to keep the plaza darkened during the show. There are street lamp-esque lights around the perimeters of the bricked area which give off a good amount of light from what I remember when I was an assistant front of house manager in 2007. We have strings of carnival lights that we bring up over the plaza during intermission and after the show which throw lots of light as well."

Information about electricity and bringing your own lighting:

Sara has told me that there will be access to electricity for many, if not all the vendors. Just a side note though: "Vendors will have access to electricity and are more than welcome to bring their own lighting instruments. However, we do ask that depending on proximity to the amphitheatre, the light be doused or dimmed once it becomes completely dark outside (around 9:00) in order not to distract our patrons sitting on the back of the lawn. Small wattage incandescent and EFL bulbs are great. It's just when we start getting into fluorescent bulbs that we have an issue."

Information about consultants:

To answer your question about consultants, it appears that the show will mainly be focused on artists and crafters, however, they will be allowing some corporate sponsors and consultants would fit under this category. There will be different information for this particular vendor group.

The event is ON and information is posted here.

CityArts

"CityArts Festival will encompass both a juried art market showcasing fine art and original art presented by The 500 Inc. as well as a general market place for vendors who want to showcase and sell Arts & Crafts, Collectibles & Antiques, Boutique Merchandise. OutNAbout - Weekend in Review 4/10 - 4/11

Well, I had ambitious plans for this weekend but, as you know, sometimes life just takes over. Richard and I were only able to make it to one show, but we still had a great time and met a lot of wonderfully talented artists and crafters!

Urban Street Bazaar

This was our first Urban Street Bazaar, and we were not disappointed! The show stretched down Bishop and featured many, many vendors showcasing a large variety of artistic and crafty creations. The live music was great, the crowd was steady and friendly, and the event was a lovely way to spend your Saturday afternoon!

We saw a lot of new faces, which is always fun. I especially loved all the custom clothing vendors, such as Shy Violet and Rewerked. Another super creative vendor was Pigsey Art. Her upcycled journals gave me hope of finally finding a way to incorporate my love of old books into my actual everyday life!

I hope all the vendors survived the occasional gust of wind that seems to be a reoccurring theme with Texas Shows lately. Here's hoping we've seen the last of it! As always, thanks to all the shoppers that came out this weekend and supported their local Arts & Crafts community. See you out and about soon!

OutNAbout - Weekend in Review

This weekend Richard I checked out the shows in our Weekend Fun post. I had a blast and met a lot of neat crafters and artists. Thanks to everyone who took a card, checked out the site, and/or chatted with us!
First Stop: Gypsy Wagon

Debbie Daise and Lynn Woods of Sew English were holding down the fort outside. Kimberly Petit of Petit Four was out on an errand, but we did see her products and like everything else there... it was adorable and of spectacular quality. I can't wait to see what The Gypsy Wagon is featuring in their Handmade Markets this Saturday!

Interested in being a vendor at one of the Handmade Markets? Check out vendor information here.

Second Stop: Deep Ellum Arts Festival

I can't even begin to name all the artists we saw at this show. There was a great variety of art, musicians, and vendors at every corner. Two fine Texas artists that stood out were: Amy Bomar and Ashley Jones--two very different styles, but enjoyable none the less!

Last Stop: Flea Harvey's

Flea Harvey's had an eclectic group of vendors, from handmade to vintage and everything in between. I was excited to see a couple of familiar faces at the event--Abbie of Eye On The Sparrow and Jennifer of Textile Fetish. I loved finding out that they are both already fans of DFW Craft Shows!

Interested in taking place in Flea Harvey's next event? Vendor info can be found here.

I hope all you shoppers and vendors took advantage of that beautiful weather and had a great weekend! See you out and about again soon!
